* | k8systemd: run k8s workloads in systemdValentin Rothberg2022-05-17
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Support running `podman play kube` in systemd by exploiting the previously added "service containers". During `play kube`, a service container is started before all the pods and containers, and is stopped last. The service container communicates its conmon PID via sdnotify. Add a new systemd template to dispatch such k8s workloads. The argument of the template is the path to the k8s file. Note that the path must be escaped for systemd not to bark: Let's assume we have a `top.yaml` file in the home directory: ``` $ escaped=$(systemd-escape ~/top.yaml) $ systemctl --user start podman-play-kube@$escaped.service ``` Closes: https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RUN-1287 Signed-off-by: Valentin Rothberg <vrothberg@redhat.com>
* vendor test tools in submodulePaul Holzinger2022-05-04
| | | | | | | | | | Instead of using the main module we should vendor the test tools in a different directory. That way we do not add extra dependencies to the main module which can be problemetic for packages or other users. This is already done in buildah so this makes us more consitent. * Fix Error, empty output for info: 'VERSION'Chris Evich2021-09-21
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When building releases, the definitive canonical version of podman (or podman-remote) is needed. Previously this was accomplished by scraping `version/version.go`. However, due to tooling differences across platforms, this has proven problematic, unreliable, and hard to maintain. Fix this by building and caching a small golang binary who's only purpose is to print the version number to stdout. This not only provides a quick and reliable way to determine the current version, it also acts as a check on the version API vs tooling that relies on it. Lastly, remove several `RELEASE_*` Makefile definitions which aren't actually used anywhere. These were originally added a very long time ago to serve as part of a long since retired release process. The remaining items, were updated to make use of the new `.podmanversion` binary on an as-required basis (i.e. not every time `make` is run). Signed-off-by: Chris Evich <cevich@redhat.com>

* Overhaul Makefile binary and release worflowsChris Evich2021-04-12
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | * Incorporate changes from abandoned #9918: Use dedicated `bin` sub-directories for `windows` and `darwin` when building `podman-remote`. The linux flavor remains under `bin` as before. * Fix MacOS Documentation-generation for release-packaging. The `install-podman-remote-%-docs` target requires local execution of `podman-remote`, but it was assuming GOOS=linux. Fix this by dynamically discovering the local OS/architecture type while still permitting cross-building of MacOS binaries under Linux. * Unify temporary directory/file behavior to use a common template. In case of left-over temporary items left in the repository, update the `clean` target accordingly to remove them. * Fix broken podman-remote-static and MacOS release archive targets mismatching the `podman-remote-%` target. Disambiguate this target for all platforms by spelling each out in full, instead of using a wild-card recipe. * Fix Windows-installer target to properly recognize existing output files and not constantly rebuild every time. * Include the podman version number in the Windows-installer target in case a user downloads multiple releases. * Include a subdirectory containing the podman version number for both `tar.gz` and `zip` targets. This prevents users clobbering existing directories when un-archiving from releases. Signed-off-by: Chris Evich <cevich@redhat.com>

| | | | | | | | | This involves a new test binary (a basic implementation of the volume plugin protocol) and a new image on quay.io (Containerfile to produce it and all sources located in this commit). * Cirrus: Detailed CPU/Memory/Time runner.sh statsChris Evich2020-11-09
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | On several occasions, there have been questions about CPU/Memory/IO trends in testing over time. Start collecting this data for all jobs, using a common/stable format so that trending analysis can be performed within/across multiple Cirrus-CI builds. This PR doesn't add any related tooling, it simply arranges for the collection of the data. Stats generation is done at the orchestration level to guarantee they reflect everything happening inside `runner.sh`. For example, the container-based tests re-exec `runner.sh` inside a container, but we're only interested in the top-level stats. Update all tasks to include collection of the stats file. Unfortunately, due to the way the Cirrus-CI YAML parser works, it is *not* possible to alias the artifacts collection more clearly, for example: ```yaml always: <<: *runner_stats <<: *logs_artifacts ``` Signed-off-by: Chris Evich <cevich@redhat.com>

* Add podman static buildSascha Grunert2020-05-11
| | | | | | | | | | | We’re now able to build a static podman binary based on a custom nix derivation. This is integrated in cirrus as well, whereas a later target would be to provide a self-contained static binary bundle which can be installed on any Linux x64-bit system. * Move noCache logic lower in stackChris Evich2019-09-26
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | One or more tests are not taking advantage of the local image cache. This has been observed to cause a testing flake in at least one `--sigproxy` test which uses `PodmanTestIntegration.PodmanPID()`. It has a rather short timeout of 15-seconds, which isn't always enough time to pull down a remote image. Fix this by reloacing the `noCache` logic from `PodmanTest.PodmanAsUserBase()` down the stack into `PodmanTestIntegration.makeOptions()`. This also eliminates the need to also check if a remote-client is being used - since it uses a different function. Also reverse the parameter order in `PodmanTest.PodmanBase` so that everywhere is consistently `noEvents` then `noCache`. Signed-off-by: Chris Evich <cevich@redhat.com>

* Cirrus: Automate releasing of tested binariesChris Evich2019-07-03
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | It's desirable to make archives available of builds containing actual tested content. While not official distro-releases, these will enable third-party testing, experimentation, and development for both branches (e.g. "master") and pull requests (e.g. "pr3106"). * Add a Makefile targets for archiving both regular podman binaries and the remote-client. Encode release metadata within these archives so that their exact source can be identified. * Fix bug with cross-compiling remote clients for the Windows and Darwin platforms. * Add unit-testing of cross-compiles for Windows and Darwin platforms. * A few small CI-script typo-fixes * Add a script which operates in two modes: 1. Call Makefile targets which produce release archives. Upload the archive to Cirrus-CI's built-in caching system using reproducible cache keys. 2. Utilize reproduced cache keys to attempt download of cache from each tasks. When successful, parse the file's release metadata, using it to name the archive file. Upload all recovered archives to a publicly accessible storage bucket for future reference. * Update the main testing task to call the script in mode #1 for all primary platforms. * Add a new `$SPECIALMODE` task to call the script in mode #1 for Windows and Darwin targets. * Add a new 'release' task to the CI system, dependent upon all other tasks. This new tasks executes the script in mode #2. * Update CI documentation Signed-off-by: Chris Evich <cevich@redhat.com>
* pod infra container is started before a container in a pod is run, started, ↵Peter Hunt2019-02-15
| | | | | | | | | | or attached. Prior, a pod would have to be started immediately when created, leading to confusion about what a pod state should be immediately after creation. The problem was podman run --pod ... would error out if the infra container wasn't started (as it is a dependency). Fix this by allowing for recursive start, where each of the container's dependencies are started prior to the new container. This is only applied to the case where a new container is attached to a pod. Also rework container_api Start, StartAndAttach, and Init functions, as there was some duplicated code, which made addressing the problem easier to fix. Signed-off-by: Peter Hunt <pehunt@redhat.com>
